When it comes to windows one of the things so many people have problems with is the measuring part of it. The reason why so many people have problems with the measuring part of it is because they don’t know exactly what to measure and why you need room on each side. Lets take a look at casement windows and the reason why we are going to look at casement windows is because the measurement process is a little different that on other windows.

The way you measure for a casement window is to measure the opening and then subtract half an inch from the total. The reason why you do this is so that you can get a window that will actually fit into the opening. What you need to understand is when a window is too small you can always add more wood to make the frame smaller but when it comes down to making the frame bigger it is a lot bigger process. Something you need to understand is that the frames are also not always square and because of this you need to make sure you measure in 3 different places on the window, the top, middle, and bottom. Remember to do this because most people only measure in one place and then find out later that the spot they measured was the biggest spot on the window.

Another thing you need to know about how to measure for casement windows is the window company will also need to know how wide you want the window frames thickness to be and for that all you have to do is measure from the edge of the inside wall to the end of the outside wall. A lot of times what happens is a casement window will have a lip that is placed on the outside of the house and all that lip does is presses up against the frame work for a tighter seal.
